Mary’s Little Lamb

I just wanted to share with you something the Munchkin said to me last night that made me chuckle.

Every night at bedtime we read stories and sing some songs together before she settles down to sleep. I like to teach her as many songs and nursery rhymes as possible, including the songs my Dad used to sing to me as a child. Of course, she likes to mix things up a bit and sing as least one song that she has completely made up (which could be anything from carrots having a bath to how she doesn’t like wasps) or she changes the lyrics to a well known nursery rhyme. For example: Jack and Jill went up the Hill because he needed a poo.

Anyway, back to last night. The nursery rhyme chosen by Munchkin was ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’. So we sang together about Mary’s little Lamb with its fleece white as snow, how it followed her to school one day which was against the rule, and how the children laughed and played to see a lamb at school. After we had finished, Munchkin sat silently for a moment, in deep thought. And then she said to me in a very matter-of-fact way

Mary should have just got a dog!
